Private, corporate or group self defence classes (either at your location or a park nearby)
Learn how self-awareness minimises the possibility of being caught in threatening situations; the role of mindfulness; and how to diffuse potential physical threats. Practise the skills, designed to be acquired quickly, to defend yourself in situations of commonly encountered threats to your person.
Over a series of classes, you will achieve the ultimate aim of equipping yourself with the skills to
negotiate circumstances of fight or flight.
These classes (at beginner and more advanced levels) are suitable for men, women and (especially female) teenagers to develop focus and awareness through participation in interactive two-person drills.
Self-defence training includes techniques, learnt at the outset of the course, for deterring bullies or warding off sexual aggressors. Classes are held close to where you live or work, in parks around the eastern suburbs.
For school teachers, a concise and effective defense training program is available.
Refer to the following article from Sydney Morning Herald for background to the benefits
of self-defence skills and awareness in the teaching profession.
health and safety benefits
Self-defence skills derive from classical martial arts practice and produce the immediate benefits of increased physical and mental flexibility as aids to personal awareness.
The concepts and practice of prior knowledge, preparation and prevention, will quickly provide you with the essential tools of self-defence.
With these tools comes a greater sense of self-possession; our main intention is to go out and return unharmed and our ability to do so results in confidence and diminishment of fear. Relaxation and awareness, rather than hyper-vigilance, are the keys to self-defence capability and lead naturally to a more centred and harmonious existence.
The exercises and drills of self-defence training are adapted from those practised and refined over hundreds of years to counter physical deterioration through ageing. The creation of surplus energy in the body contributes to physical and psychological health through better fitness, flexibility, co-ordination and focus in each participant.
Conditions of ill-health where tension is the cause may improve or be completely cured as inner energy accumulates. The exercises are gentle and refined and have the effect of massaging the internal organs while strengthening bones, sinews and circulation. As practice continues, the energy pathways in the body open and the accumulation of vital energy is felt throughout the body. This process is refined in on-going practice.
People of all ages and states of health are equally able to practice. Loose comfortable clothing is required.
